EFCC Should Prosecute Owner Of 753 Duplexes, Not Hide His Identity– Comrade Agberen

Comr.(Amb.) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement (ISRCA) AKA “No Justice, No Peace, has said that it was highly commendable that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission could take over an Abuja estate with 753 duplexes in its largest asset recovery case in 21 years, saying that while he acknowledges this as a milestone achievement, he also has mixed feelings because the information remains incomplete since Nigerians are not aware of who forfeited this kind of asset in the present day economy.

He added: “If it were to be some suspected cybercrime case (yahoo yahoo), the commission would publish their names with their faces boldly published, while a public office holder would loot an entire nation, while his face and name is kept away from the public.”

According to him, Nigerians deserve to know the defendant in this case and how he ventured into building 753 units of duplexes to this level, without the government taking notice of the disappearances of public funds.

In his words, “a government that has borrowed so much money in the last eighteen years without anything to show for it, while a government official will loot the borrowed fund and government will return to tax for everybody to pay back the debts?|”

He continued: “What a wicked system! Irrespective of the fact that the EFCC did a great job, the issue here is publicizing its investigation processes in an unprofessional manner by omitting forfeiter whom in the real sense, should be convicted, persecuted publicly so it could serve as deterrent to other public officials.

“Meanwhile, the Presidency and its Senates should first publish the forfeiter and not make anonymous. Such an individual do not deserve to walk the streets of Nigeria, freely. Also, the Federal Government should make available to the public, the plans for making the forfeiture an economic gain for the people who should benefit more from the “so called fight against corruption,” as the people haven’t benefited from its recoveries.

“In a suggestive note, these houses should be sold to public and proceeds from the sales be given to real entrepreneurs as a revolving loan so as to boost economic activities and increase our GDP.”
