Funfair Stampede: Apostle Suleiman Condemns Arrest Of Organisers

Founder of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleiman has condemned the arrest of the organisers of an event that led to the death of 35 children during a funfair stampede in Ibadan last week.

Recall that the main organizer of the event, a philanthropist and former queen of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, and others, were arrested over the death of the children.

Similar deaths have also occurred in the FCT and Anambra.

The cleric spoke while delivering his sermon during the Harvest Time Crusade programme organised by Word of Life Bible Church, Warri on Thursday.

According to him, those arrested were only trying to help the poor and needy and thus committed no crime.

He added: “Instead of arresting the organisers of the event, the police would have arrested hunger.”

Suleiman said the Federal Government must address the root of the problem of hunger and not looking for scapeoats.

The cleric noted that people arrived at the venue earlier than when the programme was scheduled to start.

“I was told people were throwing their children to the venue through the fence when the gates were still shut. It seems we are back to 2 Kings 6 when women were eating their children.”

He called for the release of those arrested for organizing the event.
