Rivers Assembly Lampoons Governor Fubara For Purportedly Presenting 2025 Appropriation Bill To “3 Former Members”

“Infuriated by the recalcitrant and lawless posture of Governor Siminialayi Fubara, the Rivers State House of Assembly at its 88th Legislative Sitting, on Tuesday, lampooned Governor Fubara for his disdain for Judicial pronouncements, treating judgements of Courts as mere tissue papers.”

Martins Wachukwu, Special Assistant On Media To The Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, said this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, “the House made the deprecation when the Deputy Speaker who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, presented the recent Judgement of the Court of Appeal to the House, wherein the Court once again reaffirmed that the irrefutable and legitimate House of Assembly of Rivers State is the one led by Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule.”

“Hon. Maol decried the scornful disposition of the Governor towards the Court of Appeal Judgement which the Governor himself filled; adding that such display of impunity and utter disregard to the Court of Appeal Judgement by claiming to have presented the 2025 Appropriation Bill to three former Members of the House was the apogee of disdain for the Judiciary.

“Members who commented, condemned the act of Governor Fubara, stating that despite several judgments of the Court of Appeal, affirming the legitimacy of the Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule led Assembly, Governor Fubara still went astray.

“Speaking in support of the comments of Members, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule stated that in the recent Court of Appeal Judgement, the appellants including the Governor lost on all grounds of appeal, except on the withholding of federal allocation to the State.

“The issue of speakership and membership of the Rivers State House of Assembly is a decided matter by the Court of Appeal at different times, and in all, the court stated emphatically that there has been no other Assembly known to law than the Assembly led by me”, Rt. Amaewhule insisted.

The Speaker averred that regrettably Governor Fubara now sees himself as one who is above the Constitution of the country and the judgements of courts; adding that such recklessness is an invitation to self-help and anarchy. Maintaining that such malfeasance and unbridled actions of the Governor would bow to the provisions of the law as the House believes in the Constitution, Laws and Judiciary of the country.”
