Reactivation Of Ogwashi-Uku Water Scheme: A Milestone For The Community
The persistent issue of water scarcity in Ogwashi-Uku is set to become a thing of the past, thanks to the successful attraction of international donor agencies by His Majesty, Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Chukwuka Okonjo II. The reactivation of the Ogwashi-Uku Water Scheme, a vital project aimed at addressing the community’s water needs, is now underway.
International partners, including USAID and Mercy Corps, have shown remarkable commitment to the project. With the full cooperation and support of the Delta State Government, through the Ministry of Water Resources, these agencies have conducted thorough inspections of key sites integral to the water scheme.

Ogwashi-Uku
A significant milestone in the project was achieved on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, with the formal handover of the project site. The event began with a courtesy visit by the contractor to His Majesty, Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Chukwuka Okonjo II, at the Palace of the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, located at Uge Oha Ogbeofu Quarters. This was followed by an official site visit and the formal handover of the site by the General Manager of the Delta State Water Board.

In attendance at the handover ceremony were representatives of the Palace, including Chief Z.E. Ojeogwu, Chairman of the Ogwashi-Uku Water Committee, and Barr. (Chief) Jude Obidi, Secretary of the Ogwashi-Uku Water Committee, who also serves as the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) for the project.
This initiative underscores the unwavering dedication of His Majesty, Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Chukwuka Okonjo II, to the development and welfare of Ogwashi-Uku. The community looks forward to the successful completion of the project, which will significantly improve access to clean and reliable water.
