DELSU Not Increasing School Fees, Oasis Magazine Investigation Reveals
An investigation by Oasis Magazine has revealed that the management of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, is not increasing students’ fees, contrary to concerns triggered by changes observed on the university’s payment portal.
This followed information obtained by Oasis Magazine from top management sources on Saturday regarding the development.
The development was also corroborated by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (GCNS), who disclosed that he had spoken with the university management through the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Efebe.
In a statement titled “Update on DELSU Fee Increment,” Afeez explained that the situation arose from an error on the university’s portal and not a decision by management to increase fees.
According to the statement, the university management has consequently suspended the payment portal pending a thorough verification and correction of the identified errors.
Meanwhile, the Publisher of Oasis Magazine, Daniel Umukoro, on Saturday described reports of a fee increase as false rumours, insisting that there was no decision by the university management to increase students’ fees.

Umukoro said sources close to the management revealed that the controversy arose from errors made in compiling the breakdown of the university’s fees, adding that the management had reached an understanding with the Student Union Government (SUG) of the institution on the matter.
He explained that the payment portal had been shut down to enable the relevant authorities to address the errors and upload the correct fee breakdown.
The publisher also called on students and other stakeholders not to use the development to portray the Vice-Chancellor as being opposed to students’ interests.
He commended the Vice-Chancellor for what he described as significant improvements in the university’s infrastructure and facilities, noting that his administration had recorded considerable infrastructural development.
Umukoro further described the Vice-Chancellor as student-friendly and worker-friendly, arguing that his administration’s contributions to the institution should not be overlooked because of the portal error.
He urged those portraying the development as evidence of an anti-student policy to reconsider their position, insisting that there was no planned fee increase.
“I speak authoritatively because I have the ears of many at the management cadre, and there is nothing of such,” he said, urging students to remain calm while the errors were being addressed.
Afeez also appealed to students to avoid unnecessary panic and thanked them for their patience and understanding.
