Knights Or Kings? Power Struggles In The Order Of St. Mulumba

In a world where knights are meant to be courageous and stand for truth, one man is speaking up against what he calls corruption in the Order of St. Mulumba (KSM), a Catholic group in Nigeria. Kerry Jackson, a former leader in the group’s Benin Metro division, says he has been unfairly removed because he dared to challenge powerful people within the Order.

The Fight Over the Constitution

At the heart of the problem is a rule book called the KSM Constitution 2020, which was created in Asaba to guide how the Order is run. Kerry Jackson claims that the current leader of the Order, Sir Charles Mbelede, wants to change this Constitution so he and his wife can take full control. When other members opposed these changes, Jackson says Mbelede and his allies tried to force them through anyway.

Seeing what was happening, Jackson wrote a protest letter in 2023 to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), which oversees the Order. The bishops agreed that changes should be put on hold. However, according to Jackson, the leadership ignored this decision and falsely claimed they had the bishops’ approval to move forward.

Shocking Allegations Within the Order

Jackson also says there are serious problems within the Order that are being covered up. He claims:

Some men in the group, who are supposed to be role models, have been making advances on other members’ wives.

The Order has an investment program, but instead of helping members, some leaders allegedly use the money for their benefit.

Sir Charles Mbelede is accused of using the Order’s money to take his wife on luxury trips, even though this is against the Constitution.

A female member pretended to be a reverend sister to damage another priest’s reputation, but she was only given a light punishment.

Jackson says that instead of addressing these issues, the leaders decided to remove him for speaking up.

A Controversial Expulsion

On February 12, 2025, Jackson received a letter stating that he had been expelled from the Order. The letter, signed by the Order’s Supreme Secretary, Sir Dan Egwu, ordered that:

1. Kerry Jackson and his sister were no longer members of the Order.

2. All official ties with him should be cut immediately.

3. His name should be removed from all KSM platforms within 48 hours.

4. Other members should leave any online groups where Jackson is an administrator.

5. The Benin Metro leadership should confirm that these actions were taken.

Jackson’s Response: A Call for Justice

Jackson argues that the expulsion was illegal because he was never given a fair trial. According to him, KSM has rules that require setting up a committee to investigate any wrongdoing before a member can be expelled. He says that didn’t happen in his case.

He is now demanding that the Order withdraw the expulsion within seven days, or he will take legal action. He also believes the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria should step in to ensure fairness.

What Happens Next?

Jackson insists he has proof to back up all his claims. He says he will not be silenced and is ready to take his fight to the public if necessary.

This case raises big questions: Should religious groups be held accountable for their actions? Will the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria step in to investigate? And most importantly, will Kerry Jackson get justice?
