Looking For Value In Predictable Delta Gov Of The Year Awards

Since 1999, successive governors of Delta state have received Best Governor Of The Year award from awarding platforms who sell it for stomach infrastructure.

Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan got multiple awards from these entities including the media who sell the awards as food stuff.

Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa also has best governor award. It is predictable Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has started his collection of awards.

Delta state governors are best governors of the year. What has these awards really done to Delta? Delta remains one of the most backward states in terms of infrastructure, unemployment and growing insecurity, particularly measured by the level of income the state receives.

Days ago, a friend in pains abandoned his private home in one part of Warri environs and relocated to a rent apartment in another area of the City.

There is nothing new about best governor award being given to Oborevwori. It is sheer furtherance of the culture of ‘arrangee’ awards.

If best governors awards were real, Delta, by now would have been comparable to United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

With all these awards, Deltan motorists still drive bad roads and unemployment is growing as businesses are folding up to.unhealthy business climate.

Are these awards really given on merit? No governor in Nigeria deserves any award. No minister deserves any award. No Nigerian President deserves award.

Awards in Nigeria are traded to the highest bidder. Money ought to be used to build infrastructure is what they use to induce those delivering political officeholders awards for one exaggerated achievement or the another.

Delta remains a land of where governors and contractors profiteer from compromising set qualities and terms of contract to churn out shoddy projects that can’t stand the test of time and the governor comes out to issue pretentious threats to blacklist the contractors.

Where are the indices to make situated governor of the year award in Delta today. Is it the flyovers under construction, with sharp drop in quality assurance against those same contractors they are executing in neighboring Rivers that informs the awards?

Why don’t Nigerian elites free selves from these shameful oddities? The criteria for this awards are confusing because those given awards don’t merit them.

A country with no stable electricity, sustained high crime rate, road not motorable,a country where the majority can’t feed well, unemployment endemic.

A country without affordable health care for the majority poor, even the rich fly overseas to treat headaches, no domestic hospital capable of giving healthcare to the President. A country where the rich are getting richer and the poor getting poorer.

No political officeholder deserve any award. None of them deserve even their partisan national awards. Nigeria should be as developed as the UAE, Qatar by now.

What is pushing young Nigerians to Japa? In the past, when those who travel to Europe and America return home immediately after their studies, but now they prefer to remain in other countries doing mania jobs and yet some organisations still give awards to politicians.

The awards given to politicians are so useless, so shameful.
