Abraka Residents Applaud CSP Ayameh Fabian Emehi Over Reduction In Crime Rate

Residents of Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, have heaped praises on the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Ayameh Fabian Emehi, for his remarkable efforts in reducing crime and restoring peace in the once-troubled town.

Abraka, once a troubled town, has experienced a drastic decline in criminal activities since CSP Fabian Emehi took over leadership of the Abraka Police Division in September 2021. Investigations reveal that the crime rate in the area has dropped by an impressive 90 percent, a development attributed to CSP Emehi’s strategic approach to crime-fighting, intelligence gathering, and swift police response.

Residents who spoke to newsmen expressed their appreciation for the improved security situation, noting that before CSP Fabian Emehi’s arrival, the town was gripped with fear, and movement, especially at night, was unsafe.

A resident, Mr. James Okoh, described the transformation as remarkable.

“There was a time when people lived in constant fear. Armed robbers and kidnappers operated freely, and no one felt safe, especially at night. But today, things have changed. Criminals are on the run, and we can move around without looking over our shoulders,” he said.

Similarly, Mrs. Esther Edafe, a trader at the Abraka Main Market, noted that businesses are now thriving due to the improved security.

“Before now, traders had to close their shops early for fear of being attacked. But with increased police presence and regular patrols, we feel safer and can now stay open longer,” she stated.

It was gathered that CSP Fabian tenure has led to several successful operations, with numerous criminals arrested, while others have been neutralized during engagements with law enforcement. A senior police officer, who preferred anonymity, confirmed that several suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, and cultists have been apprehended and are facing prosecution.

“We have intensified our operations, relying on intelligence gathering and community collaboration. Many criminal elements have been arrested, and some have already been prosecuted, while others are undergoing investigation,” the officer disclosed.

Further findings revealed that the police division has been working closely with vigilante groups, community leaders, and informants to track down criminals. This synergy has led to the dismantling of several criminal hideouts, with weapons and stolen properties recovered in the process.

Residents also commended CSP Emehi’s community policing strategy, which has encouraged people to report suspicious activities. His open-door policy has further strengthened trust between the police and the public, making intelligence sharing more effective.

Despite the significant achievements recorded, challenges persist. It was gathered that the police division still faces constraints such as inadequate personnel, limited patrol vehicles, and insufficient modern crime-fighting equipment.

A youth leader in the area, Mr. Solomon Igbokwe, called on the government to provide additional support to the police.

“The police have done an excellent job, but they need more support. More patrol vehicles, improved communication gadgets, and better weapons will help them perform even better,” he said.

Students of Delta State University, Abraka, have also testified to the improved security situation. Mr. David Okorie, a student, noted that the campus, once a hotspot for criminal activities, is now safer.

“Previously, students were often harassed by criminals, especially at night. But with increased police patrols, we feel much safer. I hope the government continues to support the police so that security remains tight,” he said.

With crime at its lowest level in years, residents are optimistic that Abraka’s security will continue to improve. However, they emphasized the need for sustained government support and community cooperation to prevent criminals from regrouping.
