DELSU VC Thanks God For His Appointment, As Oborevwori Pledges 100% Support

The 8th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Professor Samuel Asagba, on Saturday appreciated God for his appointment.

The widely attended Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service held at the institution’s Convocation Arena in Site III.

Speaking during the programme, Asagba, said the programme “was not just a ceremony, saying it was a heartfelt expression of gratitude and a pouring out of thanks to the Almighty God for His boundless grace and unwavering favour in his life.”

He said the event was organised to acknowledge that his “success, appointment and very life are gifts from God.”

Asagba said further: “As the Vice-Chancellor and with God’s blessings, I am ready, together with my team, to promote and protect the name, brand and image of our university. We will strive for excellence in all our endeavours, ensuring that Delta State University, Abraka remains a leading institution of higher learning in Nigeria and beyond.”

Adding: “We will foster a culture of innovation, research and community engagement, empowering our students to become leaders and change-makers in their respective fields. We will also prioritise the welfare of our staff, creating a conducive environment for them to thrive and contribute their best.”

Speaking further, he thanked Governor Oborevwori for his dedication to the regular payment of staff salaries, the prompt implantation of the new national salary structure for tertiary institutions and the minimum wage, saying these have not gone unnoticed.

He added: “We are equally thrilled by the recent approval of millions of naira in research grants for our university.”

Earlier, while delivering his sermon, Bishop of Freedom Family Assembly, Great Ameye, who took his text from Romans 13:1-7, urged the VC to run the institution with the fear of God, just as he called on him to always seek wisdom from God daily to excel.

Clerics at the event led prayer sessions for the institution, the new VC and the Delta State Government.

Meanwhile, the Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who was the Special Guest of Honour has promised to give 100% support to the university as part of his commitment to supporting education in the state.

Gov Oborevwori who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Johnbull Tonukari promised to provide all the necessary support to sustain DELSU as the premier institution in Delta State.

This commitment, he said aligns with his vision to keep Delta State ahead in all aspects of social and economic well-being.

Dignitaries from all walks of life graced the event.
