DESOPADEC: Egbo Continues Projects Inspection In His Mandate Area

Member representing Isoko ethnic extraction on the Board of DESOPADEC, Chief Victor Egbo on Monday continued with inspection of projects in his mandate area.

The first port of call was the road project at the Mechanic village in Oleh where an obviously miffed Chief Egbo berated the contractor for the poor job.

“The entrance was not married to the main road; the edge needs casting; no kerbs were placed along the edge of the road; the road is not balanced as a roller was not used on it and it was flat, on same level with the ground as against the 4″ to 8” thickness,” Egbo observed.

Displeased with the nature of the job, the Member ordered the contractor to go back to site immediately to have the anomalies rectified.

At St. Michael’s College, the project so inspected was nothing to write home about. The roofing sheets used for the building for example, were refurbished, resulting in a very poor job. It was later discovered that there was a conspiracy between the Principal of the school, Mrs. Bridget Onojerame and the Contractor, Kenoba Construction Company to short-change the Commission where it was agreed between them that a certain sum of money be paid to the Principal by the Contractor so he could do the shoddy job of using about 80% of refurbished roofing sheets for the job as well as have the remaining 20% of roofing sheets given to her for her personal use.

To make matters worse, the unruly School Principal, Mrs. Onojerame displayed utmost disrespect for constituted authority by making provocative statements, issuing threats and stating that nothing can be done to her despite her atrocities.

The Member who could not believe the length some people could go to make cheap money, therefore, reached out to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, DESOPADEC, Chief Festus Ochonogor to invite the parties involved for questioning.

Interestingly, the contractor handling the Mechanic village road project, Kenoba Construction Company, is the same contractor handling the classroom renovation project at St. Michael’s College, Oleh.

Next was the first phase of the Urusewe/Iyama road under construction. The standard of the ongoing project so pleased Mr. Project that he showered praises on the contractor.

There was also the installation of a 300kva transformer at Odoro road which is to service Otio, Uzeva and Emeta streets respectively.

The first phase of the ongoing Ithirikpe street (150m) construction work at Idheze road was next to be inspected.

Chief Egbo who was all praises for the quality of work done so far, encouraged the contractor to keep it up.
