Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, Hon. (Chief) Midwest Iboyitete, has reacted to Chief Great Ogboru’s return to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Recall that Ogboru, popularly known as the People’s General, on Saturday returned to the APC.

Leaders and members of APC Ward 1 in Abraka were on ground to receive him at the community’s town hall.

In a telephone chat with Oasis Magazine, Iboyitete said the defection did not surprise him.

In his words, “that has been the system of our brother since he joined politics.”

He added: “This action he took has no negative impact on PDP. He is going into another struggle with APC people there. He must still struggle. He is actually going to cause more division in APC which will be to our favour. He has gone there for his personal interest.”

According to him, “from the time Ogboru started identifying with PDP, he has been dillydallying.”

“Did he make any direct pronouncement that he is PDP now? It is just that the other time, he behaved as if he was working with PDP. But, did he not campaign till the governorship election was held? He actually came second in Ethiope East LGA. That means he worked very hard. So he cannot tell us that he was working with PDP.

“I wish him well, but in this area we are not bothered,” he said.

On the appointment of Ogboru’s relatives and some supporters in the PDP government, he said: “Maybe, he had some backdoor arrangement that made him get those appointments. Some of his people are SSAs, others are board members. Even Council Ogboru that won his councillorship election was by Great Ogboru. But they gave him all these freehand thinking that he will align with PDP but he did otherwise. So, it is his personal wish.”

Asked if it was necessary for those that got their appointments through Chief Ogboru to resign, he said: “The decision is left to them,” adding that but “if they behave funny from now because of the defection, and want to support Ogboru, their appointments will be withdrawn except Council that won his election.”

This, he said was his personal opinion.

To PDP family in the council area, he said they must remain steadfast and firm.

“We will continue to win elections in Ethiope East,” he assured.
