The ruling All Progressives Congress on Wednesday welcomed a three-term member of the House of Representatives, Nicholas Ossai, following his defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, The Punch reports.

Ossai, who officially switched allegiance to the APC, said his decision was driven by the need to bring meaningful development to his constituents, adding that the ruling party offered the best platform to achieve his vision.

The seasoned lawmaker previously served in the Delta State House of Assembly, representing Ndokwa West State Constituency, before moving to the House of Representatives, where he served until the end of the 2023 legislative session.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Ossai praised the APC leadership and President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as his role model.

He also expressed confidence that his defection would mark the end of the PDP’s dominance in Delta State.

“I have been in the PDP for some time now, but the umbrella has broken down. We have always regarded the President as a role model, and he remains my role model. Today, I have no other place than the APC, where I can work for him and strengthen his government,” Ossai said.

“I am here with my teeming supporters. I have gone to my ward, and my membership card has been issued to me. I have also attended the APC senatorial meeting. Today, I am formally declaring my membership and seeking your blessings.”
