Ovie Of Oghara Kingdom Confers Chieftaincy Title On Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri

The Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Orefe III, on Thursday honored the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri with a chieftaincy title in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of the institution.

The conferment ceremony took place at the Oghara Kingdom’s Palace, attracting dignitaries, community leaders, and well-wishers.

Speaking during the occasion, the revered monarch emphasized the responsibilities that come with the chieftaincy title.

He noted that Prof. Ufuophu-Biri must uphold the values and dignity of the Oghara Kingdom, saying: “As a chief, you must not eat in public any longer. You must conduct yourself with dignity and avoid any actions that could bring dishonor to the title you now bear. You are expected to carry the good name of Oghara wherever you go.”

The king also highlighted the cultural significance of the title and urged the newly installed chief to embody the traditions of the kingdom in his speech, dress, and conduct.

The Chieftaincy Title: “Omoko of Oghara Kingdom”

The title conferred on Prof. Ufuophu-Biri is “The Omoko of Oghara Kingdom.” In Urhobo, Omoko translates to “parrot,” symbolizing eloquence and effective communication—qualities that align with the Rector’s expertise in mass communication.

Prof. Ufuophu-Biri’s Acceptance Speech

In his acceptance speech, the newly installed Chief expressed deep gratitude to His Majesty and the Oghara community for the honor.

He acknowledged the unwavering support from the Polytechnic’s governing council and the broader community.

“The honor bestowed upon me is one I never expected. His Majesty has honored me in a way reminiscent of how the King honored Mordecai in the Bible. I do not take it for granted. I pledge to continue working diligently to elevate Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, to greater heights.”

Prof. Ufuophu-Biri also reiterated his commitment to advancing the institution, ensuring that it gains international recognition and maintains high academic and infrastructural standards.

He shared success stories of graduates excelling globally, including innovative projects developed by students of the Polytechnic.

Following the palace ceremony, a reception was held at Chief Frank Emiko’s Compound, Credo School Road, opposite Oghara Baptist Church. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council, Barr. Andy Orugbo, Principal Officers of the institution, Council of Chiefs, friends and well-wishers.

The celebration marked a significant moment in the history of Oghara Kingdom, reinforcing the bond between the traditional institution and the academic community.
