INTRODUCTION

Prince Ned Nwoko was born into the revered royal family of Idumuje-Ugboko in Delta State, Nigeria. His early years were marked by a strong emphasis on education, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility to his people. He attended St. Pius X Grammar School and later proceeded to the University of Keele in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a degree in Law and History. He furthered his education at King’s College, London, where he specialized in Maritime and Commercial Law.

His pursuit of excellence led him to the prestigious Lincoln’s Inn, London, where he was called to the Bar, becoming a practicing lawyer in the UK before returning to Nigeria. His international legal experience would later shape his approach to governance, leadership, and economic development.

Since assuming office as the Senator representing Delta North in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko has distinguished himself as a progressive lawmaker, championing legislative reforms, social security, economic development, and national reparations.

LEGISLATIVE IMPACT – BILLS & MOTIONS

1) Anioma State Creation Bill (SB. 481)
This bill pushes for the long-overdue creation of Anioma State, to serve the cause of equity and justice by increasing the number of South Eastern states to six, bringing them on par with the other geographical regions of Nigeria. This change will also increase and equalize the number and voting strength of their representatives at the National Assembly. Additionally, it is intended to boost the political, economic, and social advancement of the homogenous people of Anioma, who share a common language, social, and cultural heritage.

2)A Bill for an Act to Alter the Nigerian Defence Academy Act, to Provide for the Establishment of Nigerian Defence Academy in Kwale, Delta State (SB. 332)
This Bill seeks to amend the Nigeria Defence Academy Act, Cap. 101, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to make provision for the establishment of the Nigeria Defence Academy, Kwale, Delta State, to beef up the number and competence of our military in securing our country using modern technology in applying both kinetic and non- kinetic approach in the exercise of their duties in line with global best practices.

3)Diaspora Voting Bill (SB.249)
This bill seeks to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Cap. C23 Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to provide for diaspora voting with increased number of Senatorial districts from the hitherto 109 to 113 Senatorial Districts, with four Senatorial Districts each designated to the Americas (South America, North America and Canada); Europe; Asia and Australia; and Africa. Increase the number of Constituencies in the House of Representatives from 360 to 376, with new 16 Constituencies of 4 each being designated to one diaspora Senatorial District for Nigerians in Diaspora. The bill also spells out voting qualifications and eligibility for Nigerian citizens in diaspora.

4)Nigeria Social Security Agency Bill (SB. 616)
It has become expedient in the public interest to restructure the administration of social welfare in Nigeria to address the burgeoning challenges of poverty, unemployment, and social insecurity. The National Social Security Agency Bill seeks to establish a dedicated agency under the office of the President, responsible for implementing a comprehensive social security system in Nigeria.

5)A Bill for an Act to Alter the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, to Prohibit the use of Foreign Currencies in Nigeria (SB.672)
This bill seeks to alter the Central Bank of Nigeria, 2007, No. 7, Laws of the Federation, to provide for the prohibition of the discriminatory use of foreign currency payment for remuneration, services or transactions for individuals, entities, banks limited liability companies or corporation within Nigeria. It aims to completely erase the anomalies associated with such payments which has contributed heavily to the free fall of the Naira with its reverberating effect on Nigeria’s economy and general standard of living.

6)Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency Bill (SB.172)
Despite Nigeria accounting for nearly 27% of global malaria cases and over 31% of malaria-related deaths, there is no dedicated agency focused solely on eliminating the disease. Additionally, inadequate waste management has created breeding grounds for mosquitoes, exacerbating malaria transmission. This bill seeks to establish the Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency, a specialized body dedicated to tackling Nigeria’s dual crises of poor waste management and the high prevalence of malaria.

7)Firearm Act (Amendment) Bill (SB.346)
This bill seeks to alter the Firearms Act Cap F23 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, to provide for personal ownership of firearms for self defence by responsible and qualified citizens who are daily under attack by criminals. It is a push towards an effective and efficient self defense mechanism against bandits, terrorist, kidnappers, and other criminal elements, who have turned Nigeria into a killing field where innocent citizens are recklessly mauled down in their numbers. Countless lives and properties have been lost due to insecurity orchestrated by these evil men and its time we took back our country and secure our citizens by arming them with personal firearms under strict regulations and supervision to avoid achieving the direct opposite result of what we intended.

8)Nigeria Data Protection Act (Amendment) Bill (SB. 648)
This Bill seeks to amend the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, to mandate social media platforms, data controllers, and data processors operating within Nigeria to establish and maintain physical offices within the country’s territorial boundaries. The amendment aims to enhance the swift resolution of complaints, foster stakeholder confidence, ensure compliance with global best practices, and provide economic and security benefits to the nation.

9) A Bill for An Act to Alter the Federal Universities of Technology Act, Cap.F23, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, to Provide for the Upgrade of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba to the Federal University of Technology Asaba, and for Related Matters (SB.570)
This change is intended to enhance the institution’s role in advancing technological education and research, expanding its academic offerings, and aligning it with national objectives for higher education in technology. The amendment will formally include the Federal University of Technology, Asaba in the list of established Federal Universities of Technology, reflecting its new status and capabilities.

10) A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Road Safety Commission (Establishment) Act, 2007, to Restrict the Daytime Movement of Heavy-Duty Vehicles and for Related Matters (SB. 698)
This Bill seeks to amend the Federal Road Safety Commission (Establishment) Act, 2007, to incorporate a nationwide ban on the daytime movement of articulated lorries (tankers and trailers) by restricting their operation to the hours of 12 midnight to 6 am, as part of the safety requirements for heavy-duty vehicles in Nigeria.

AGRICULTURAL INTERVENTIONS & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT/ EDUCATION & HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT

1) Fertilizer & Farm Inputs Distribution: Amid Nigeria’s urgent need for food security, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko of Delta North senatorial district successfully secured 1,000 bags of fertilizer from the Federal Government for local farmers within the region.

2) Vocational Training & Skills Acquisition for Women & Youths: Senator Ned Nwoko has marked three phases of empowerment and grant funding programs. The first phase, held on November 25, 2023, saw over 200 constituents each receiving enlightening lectures and a grant of N150,000. The second phase, on June 29, 2024, empowered over 500 constituents with cash grants of N100,000 each after completing training on data-driven livestock feeding, alternative feed methods, and digital branding and social media management. The third phase saw over 300 constituents receive a grant of N100,000 each following a high-capacity development training focused on women and youth empowerment.

HEALTH & SOCIAL WELFARE INITIATIVES

Interventions: Senator Ned Nwoko has extended his medical outreach program to more communities in Delta North Senatorial District, including;

The first phase of the program, conducted in November 2023, reached over 500 beneficiaries in Idumuje-Ugboko, Umunede, and Umusan. The second phase, launched in September 2024, has already recorded over 600 beneficiaries and continues to expand.
