Appointment: Prof. Atakpo Gives Thanks To God, As DELSU VC Extols Him For Integrity And Humility

The newly elected Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of Delta State University (DELSU), Professor Edmund Atakpo, at a Thanksgiving Mass which took place on Sunday, 15th June, 2025 gave thanks to God for his appointment.

The Thanksgiving Mass which took place at Saint Paul Catholic Chapel, Site II, DELSU, Abraka witnessed the presence of personalities from all walks of life.

Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba commended Professor Atakpo for his humility and integrity.

On a note of light-heartedness, Professor Asagba further remarked that despite the celebrant’s height, he would often stoop low to show respect to his seniors, a gesture that reflects his deep humility.

He went on to narrate how the celebrant willingly stepped down for other colleagues to attain the position he himself equally desired.

The Vice Chancellor recalled that during his tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, the celebrant executed every assigned task with clockwork precision.

He further added that he has never heard any report from students that the celebrant demanded undue favours, an affirmation of the appointee’s integrity.

Concluding, Professor Asagba expressed confidence that by the end of his tenure in 2029, his achievements would reflect the wisdom of his choices of Deputy Vice Chancellors.

Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of DELSU Governing Council, General Alexander Ogomudia (Retd) in glowing terms about Professor Edmund Atakpo, described him as a professor who has been able to carve a niche for himself through sheer hard work.

General Ogomudia concluded by praising the latter’s alma mater, Abraka Grammar School, for producing achievers in academia.

In his sermon, Revd Father (Dr) James Urien admonished Professor Atakpo to imbibe the theological meaning of CHRIST in his new assignment as Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Expanding, the preacher said the C stands for Commitment to Responsibilities, H stands for Humility and Respect for Others, R stands for Resilience to face Challenges, I stands for Integrity that shows reliability and reputation, while S stands for Servant Attitude (Loyalty), and T stands for Team Work. Revd Father Urien assured Professor Edmund Atakpo of success in his new office if he practices the CHRIST principle.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Edmund Atakpo, expressed gratitude to God for his appointment.

He also thanked the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba for selecting him to serve in his administration.

He pledged his unwavering loyalty to the Vice Chancellor in line with the admonition given by the preacher during the sermon.
