ACP Shabba Bags SAN Award For Excellent Service

The Police Commander in Ughelli Area Command, ACP Aliyu Shaba, has bagged an award of outstanding performance in his line of duty from Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) Warri, Effurun and Udu branches.

The award ceremony which was held at the BON Hotel Ekpan, was attended by the Commissioner of Police,
CP Agbaniwonda Olufemi, lawyers among others.

In his address, C.A Ajuyah Senior Advocate of Nigeria, commended ACP Aliyu Shaba for proving himself worthy of character and professional disposition, saying he has reduced crime and criminality to the barest minimum in the all.of his stations.

According to him, the awardee has served in various commands and formations, Special Units and Task Force in and out of the state.

He said: “From Sudan to Ondo and from Kwara to Akwa Ibom and to Delta, the footprints tell the story of a man constantly at the vanguard of ordering against chaos.”

“He has fought kidnappers, and disarmed armed robbers, he has intercepted cultists and retrieved various arms .He has exposed the underworld of ritual murderers and restored dignity to grieving families…”

Adding: “High profile and notorious gang of armed robbers have been arrested. He has been also able to resolve Otokutu ritual murder. If policing were a theatre, ACP Shaba would have been both actor and director,” he added.

According to Ajuya h(SAN), ACP Shaba and his men remained awake so that mothers would be able to sing lullabies and traders would be able to open their stores in peace for business.

He said lawyers are not left out as they are able to argue their case in court without fear of their clients’ attack on their way home, adding that, ACP Shaba is an officer that is highly sought.

Going memory lane, Ajuyah (SAN) said there was a time in ACP Shaba’s career, the then Governor of Ondo State, requested IGP to mobilize Shaba to Ondo State when it was in crisis and he did extremely well.

On his part, Chief Otomewo, former Attorney General, Delta said ACP Shaba has done well, hence deserves the award and promised to always celebrate him any time any day.

Also, Chief Joseph Opkoko, (SAN), said, the body has to organise the ceremony based on the report of good performance of ACP Shaba as officer in his line of duty, adding, any person who performs his duties creditably deserves commendation.

He therefore urged other officers to emulate ACP Shaba in their line of duty to also get commendation some day.

He said: “We decided to honour ACP Shaba with a token of One Million Naira to serve as encouragement to him and let others know that there is reward in hard work.”

Not left out was Augustine Alegeh, Former President, Nigeria Bar Association.

He noted that the award ceremony was organized in recognition of the fact that, despite the challenges in the country, some people still standout and excel with their service in their chosen field, saying ACP Shaba is a living example and he should be celebrated.

He continued: “We believe that in recognising one officer, we encourage other officers to do better.”

On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Agbaniwonda Olufemi said it is a thing of joy to honour one of them.

According to him, ACP Shaba was the best policeman of the year in 2023 just as he came second in 2024.

Agbaniwonda said, it was due to his outstanding performance, he was ranked as the Assistant Commissioner of Police.

CP Olufemi said the award, no doubt, would inspire other police officers to work harder.

He therefore expressed gratitude to the Senior Advocates of Nigeria, lawyers for the honour done one of them.

In his response, ACP Shaba expressed gratitude to be honored by SAN and the Commissioner of Police who is his boss.

He also thanked well meaning citizens in the state particularly Warri who have deemed it necessary to honour him with the award, which, according to him, is an indication that whatever one does is noticed.

He said further: “l feel delighted to have been honoured with this award. It is true that if you are doing a good thing, people will notice it. I am a person that fights crime; I don’t like injustice.

“I always try to see that wherever I stay or work, I put in the best, I don’t do things because of any gain that l am expecting but to see that the community where l work, people can go home, sleep and close their eyes and criminals never have a resting place where I find myself.”

Shaba advised other officers to put in their best not necessarily for rewards but for others to know that they are really working.

According to him, just as they are in the service, one of these days, they would be retired.

He therefore charged police officers and the generality of the public to avoid crime as the result is not pleasant.

Others present made glowing remarks and attestations of Aliyu Shaba’s role in bringing peace to Warri and environs.

The highlight of the occasion was a group photograph with the awardee and other notable dignitaries.
