DELSU Congregation Elects Comrade Izu As Non-Academic Representative To Council

Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, on Friday held its Congregation meeting, during which members were briefed on recent developments within the University.

Chairman of Congregation and Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, at the meeting which held at the 750 Lecture Theatre A, Site III, DELSU, Abraka, updated members on several key developments.

He informed Congregation that Management, in collaboration with the University’s unions, was actively engaging the State Government to secure payment of outstanding arrears, and urged members to remain hopeful.

Professor Asagba apprised the Congregation of strategic plans to streamline traffic flow on campus through the construction of designated car parks for students.

Other developments by his administration were the construction of the road leading to Faculty of Arts, purchase of more computers for the University Exam Centre as well as refurbishing and upgrade of Internet facilities in the Centre such that it now can host more candidates for JAMB CBT exams, computerisation of DELSU staff directory, proposed digitalisation of promotions and appraisal exercise, screening of new students, configuration of a better internet service provider for staff and students as well as a  deal with MTN to facilitate improved telecommunications on campus.

Professor Asagba assured members of Congregation of his administration’s commitment to their welfare.

The meeting culminated in a keenly contested election between Mr. Emuakpo Ekuerhare and Mr. Monday Izu, both of whom were duly nominated. Following voting and the counting of ballots, Mr. Izu emerged victorious with 395 votes against Mr. Ekuerhare’s 385. He will serve as the representative of the non-teaching staff of Congregation on DELSU Governing Council.

Members who attended the Congregation meeting included Chairman of Congregation and Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Atakpo, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Hilary Owamah, Provost of Oleh Campus, Professor Elo Ibagere, Registrar of the University, Mrs Rufina Ufiofio, the University Bursar, Mrs Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa, the University Librarian, Dr Josephine Eruterio Onohwakpor, full-time members of Academic Staff and every member of administrative staff who holds a university degree recognised by DELSU.
