Delta State’s Aboh/Ogwashi Uku Agro-Industrial Park: A Promise Yet To Be Fulfilled

In 2021, former Governor Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa launched the Delta State Agro-Industrial Park, a project touted as a game-changer for the state’s agricultural sector. With a total investment of N10 billion, the park was expected to create 4,000 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs.

The project was designed as a multi-purpose and multi-product epicenter for agro-processing and agro-business activities in Delta State. Rice production was highlighted as one of the major products to be manufactured at the park.

However, more than two years after the projected completion date, the park remains incomplete. The identities of the private partners, Jayta Commodities Nigeria Limited, Mirai Technologies, and Norsworthy Limited, are shrouded in mystery, and their capacity to deliver on the project is uncertain.

The Delta State Government has a 40% stake in the project, while the private partners hold 30% each. As of June 2025, the project’s status remains unclear, leaving the people of Delta State wondering when the promised benefits will materialize.

Recently, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme led a team to inspect the project site, sparking hopes that the project may finally take off. However, concerns linger about the utilization of the N10 billion invested in the project.

The completion of the Delta State Agro-Industrial Park is crucial for the state’s economic development. With millions of youths seeking employment, the park’s potential to create jobs and stimulate economic growth cannot be overstated.

While the project’s delays are worrisome, it is essential for the government to ensure that the park is completed and operational as soon as possible. The people of Delta State deserve to reap the benefits of this promising project.

As the new administration takes the reins, it is imperative for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to prioritize the completion of the Delta State Agro-Industrial Park. By doing so, he can unlock the project’s potential to transform the state’s agricultural sector and improve the lives of its citizens.

In conclusion, the Delta State Agro-Industrial Park holds tremendous promise for the state’s economic development. However, it is essential for the government to ensure that the project is completed and operational as soon as possible, so that the people of Delta State can reap its benefits.
