Olu Of Warri Coronation Anniversary: Oborewori Commissions Renewed Hope Mother And Child Specialist Hospital

As part of activities lined up to commemorate the 4th anniversary of the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse lll, Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday officially commissioned the Mother and Child Specialist Hospital in Ugbuwangue, Warri, Delta State.

In his address during the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori said the establishment and equipment of the hospital is part of government’s efforts to boost sustainable development in underserved communities in the state.

He said: “This 80-bed, state-of-the-art medical facility, complete with modern medical equipment and residential quarters for medical personnel, is a powerful testament to the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to improving access to quality healthcare across the country, particularly in disadvantaged communities.”

According to him, a functional healthcare system such as the project is central to any vision of sustainable development and today’s world as it is a step in realization of better health for Deltans in particular and Nigeria at large.

“By investing in healthcare, we are investing in the future of our state, fostering a healthier, stronger and more prosperous Delta”, he said.

Governor Oborevwori who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Prince Johnson Erijo, charged the people to protect the project to enable the centre fufil its goal of quality healthcare delivery.

He thanked the federal government, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope – Adefulire and those who have contributed to the project in one way or the other.

On her part, Princess Adejoke Orelope – Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs said the hospital which is constructed and equipped with an ultra-modern facility, was done in partnership with sub-national governments is to reduce maternal and child mortality and enhance equitable access to essential healthcare services across the nation.

According to her, the project becomes necessary as it is a part of the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) especially that of good health and the well being of the people.

“…this project is being commissioned under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, a vision grounded in social inclusion, equity, and the strategic acceleration of national development outcomes across the
country”, she said.

She hinted that the project is equipped with operating, theatres, recovery, consulting, laboratory and scanning rooms, private and general wards, emergency cart with full complements, ultra-scan machine and vacuum extractor set.

She thanked the federal government, Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and all those who have contributed to the project in way or the other.

On his part, His Majesty, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, while underscoring the importance of the project, said the hospital facilities would be useful for all.

His Majesty who spoke through Chief Brown Mene, expressed gratitude to the 20th Olu of Warri, late Ikenwoli, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Orelope and the federal government for the laudable project and charged the community to take care of the project to enable it stand the test of time.

In his address, the Chairman of Warri Council, Comrade Isaac Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, said the current statistics of the country’s mortality rates called for the establishment of the hospital, adding, it is now possible for a state to seriously reduce high mortality rates among the people.

He thanked the federal government, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs and the Governor of Delta State for creating an environment for the project to take place.

On her part, the Board Chairman, FMC Asaba, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, said the hospital would enhance health care delivery system in the state and thanked the federal government for a job well done.

Highlight of the project was the cutting of the tape and inspection of various facilities in the hospital and a football match at the Olu’s palace main field.
