Comr. Onovugheghor Embarks On Inspection Tour To Kickstart NANS Health Mandate

In a bid to actualize his vision for improved healthcare delivery in Nigerian tertiary institutions, Dr. Onovugheghor Augustine, the Director General of Health and Medical Services for the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), led a high-powered delegation on an inspection tour of key educational institutions and medical centers in Delta State.

The delegation visited Delta State Teaching Hospital, where the DG and his team had an engagement with the AG, Chief Medical Director, Dr. Nyemike Simeon Awunor, FMCPH and the Former Dean of Clinical Sciences and also a former Provost of College of Health Sciences, Prof. Lawrence Osuakpor Omo-Aghoja – MBBS, FICS, CGCP (London). The duos of renowned Medical Professionals intimated the team on the progress and developmental strides of the Hospital under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State.

Afterwards, he proceeded to the Medical Center of the Delta Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara in accompany of the SUG President where he engaged with some of the management staffs present and students to assess the healthcare needs and facilities available for use for staff and students particularly the students. Also, he charged them to take responsiveness to distress calls and emergencies more seriously Involving students.

Emphatically, the said tour marked the beginning of Dr. Augustine’s official duties as Director General whose appointment as DG of the Directorate of Health to NANS National was officially ratified and approved by the Senate on Tuesday.

This tour, according to the DG, underscores his commitment to prioritizing student welfare and ensuring there is access to improved, quality healthcare in our Nigeria Institutions.

At each stop, Dr. Augustine and his team took out time to do an oversight of some of the facilities and equipments in these hospitals. The delegation expressed appreciation for some of the facilities and initiatives already in place, particularly noting the efforts of the Delta State Government and the Governor of Delta State in providing health-care infrastructure particularly at DELSUTH.

This proactive approach demonstrates Dr. Augustine’s dedication to his new role and his determination to make a tangible impact on student healthcare across Nigeria. As he settles into his position, it is expected that his leadership will bring about significant improvements in healthcare delivery for students nationwide.

This tour is expected to continue until almost all the medical centers, facilities and hospitals available to Nigerian students have been visited and diligently evaluated.
