Delta Police Command Reiterates Ban On Sirens, Revolving Lights, Covered/Defaced Number Plates

“The Delta State Police Command wishes to inform the public that full enforcement of regulations on tinted vehicle glass will commence from Thursday, October 2, 2025, in line with extant federal laws and directives. This statewide operation will be conducted with professionalism, respect for constitutional rights, and zero tolerance for abuse.”

SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba, said this in a statement on Tuesday.

He added: “In the same vein, the Command reiterates the subsisting ban on the unauthorized use of sirens and revolving/strobe lights, as well as the covering, defacing, or obstruction of number plates by private individuals and non-entitled officials.

“While the Command continues to enforce general traffic and safety regulations, drivers are reminded to carry their essential vehicle documents, including driver’s licence, insurance, and proof of ownership, and to cooperate courteously with officers during lawful stop-and-search procedures. Motorists are also advised to ensure their vehicle glass meets legal transparency standards. All unauthorized sirens and flashing lights should be removed without delay. Number plates must remain clear, legible, and properly affixed at all times; no bending, flipping, tinting, covering, sticker obstruction, or any alteration that renders them unreadable is permitted.”

According to the statement, the “Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, assures residents that the clampdown is focused on the immediate stoppage of illegal sirens, unauthorized flashing lights, and tampered number plates,” saying that “these measures are intended to curb road intimidation, strengthen deterrence, and improve public safety.”

“He has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to supervise field operations closely and to ensure civility and full respect for human rights in all engagements. The CP encouraged members of the public to comply as defaulters will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
