Edo State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalist has called on the state government to provide an enabling environment for private businesses to thrive.

The call was made in a communique issued and signed by Chairman, Dr Festus Alenkhe and Secretary Andy Egbon at an emergency congress which was well attended by members from the sixteen chapels of the union.

The congress which was informed by the two-week power outage at the secretariat after careful deliberations mandated the leadership to remain with Ossiomo power plant, a privately owned power provider which has supplied electricity to the secretariat for the past three years.

The union also commended the state government for the ongoing developmental projects such as the Ramat park overhead bridge and the rebuilding of the burnt Oba market and urged contractors handling the overhead bridge to expedite action and deliver the project in record time.

The congress also condemned the recent killing of eight operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps during an attack on BUA cement factory in Okpella, Estako East Local Government Area of the state and urged the state government to strengthen the security architecture across the state.

The union also congratulated the Esama of Benin Kingdom and Grand Patron of the union, Sir Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion on the celebration of his 91st birthday and wished him long life in good health and also acknowledged his contributions to madia development in Nigeria.
