Abuja UGIU Celebrates Black History Month

Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU) has successfully celebrated the Black History Month.
The President General of Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU) Worldwide, High Chief Abovi Hope Erute who graced the historic and epoch-making event, fielded questions from our correspondent on the event in an exclusive media chat at his office along Petroleum Training Institute ( PTI ) Road Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area last weekend.
Erute who doubles as the Isirerha of Etche R’ Alegbo (traditional administrative unit) in Uvwie Kingdom, explained that the Black History Month was initiated by one Dr Carter Woodson in 1926 to highlight and focused on the achievements of black Americans and that since then it has been celebrated by blacks globally.
Erute who bears the exalted title of Oviemo of Uvwie Kingdom, therefore praised members of UGIU Abuja Branch for celebrating the Black History Month which he stated that it was also aimed at show casing and focusing on the achievements of the past and present leaders of Uvwie Kingdom.
The President General of UGIU Worldwide was specifically full of praises for a distinguish member of UGIU Abuja Branch Mrs Valerie Ayodele ( nee Akpiteta) who he said mooted the idea of celebrating the Black History Month by the Abuja Branch of UGIU.
He said that there was a fund raising by Abuja Branch of UGIU for this year’s celebration of UGIU annual celebration of Uvwie Day billed to hold at Urhobo College , Effurun on the 26th of December, 2025.
Erute also commended members of UGIU Abuja Branch for being unique and for their achievements so far.
He however urged them to improve on their achievements in the interest of Uvwie Kingdom.
The respected Uvwie high chief who disclosed that he gave a history of the Uvwie people at the event also lauded the London Branch of UGIU for its fund raising for buying of equipment for General Hospital, Ekpan and donation of benches and chairs for schools in Uvwie kingdom.
Erute who also disclosed that he was honoured with an award of excellence by UGIU Abuja Branch, disclosed that he has the intention of establishing an UGIU branch in America.
The President General of UGIU Worldwide disclosed that the event was richly graced by the President General of Okpe Union Worldwide, the Abuja Branch of Okpe Union, Chief Peter Igho of Cock Crow At Dawn fame, Isoko, Igbo leaders among others.
He wrapped up the media interaction with his deep appreciation to the President of UGIU Abuja Branch, Pharmacist (Mrs) Beauty Onajite Okologo and her co executive members for the red carpet reception accorded him , his wife Onoriode and Treasurer, UGIU Worldwide, Mr Victor Utuedor.
