Amb. Dr. Onovughegor Augustine Dominates Student Politics

The current Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the Delta State University, Abraka. Sen. Amb. Dr. Onovughegor Augustine Hittler, in the students’ politics, wears many hats.
A Deltan born, from Okpe Local government has carved a niche for himself politically, rising from his early years in the university has attracted many well-deserved accolades and political offices.
From being a class coordinator in 2018 – 2024, 2019/2020 academic session, Dr. Onovughegor became a barrister on campus representing the faculty of clinical medicine and went on to serve in the student parliament.
In the 2020/2021 academic session, he became the senator representing the faculty of clinical medicine, a position he held a second time for the 2021/2022 academic session serving in the higher chamber of the students’ legislative arm, the Supreme Students’ Senate (SSS).
As Caucus Chairman South-South for the Nigeria Medical Students Association (NIMSA) for the 2022/2023 academic session and the 2023/2024 academic session. In the same 2022/2023 academic session he served as the president of the faculty of Clinical Sciences.
Unsatisfied with his political attainment went on to contest for the presidency of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) for the 2024/2025 academic session. He emerged victoriously and has challenged the system with audacious moves and ideas.

Under his administration, the union has stood out as the first to give the sum of 1 million naira to the overall best graduating students, hold multiple congresses, maintain management and student relations, refurbish the SUG Secretariat and host the biggest and most impactful gatherings, like the Hall of Fame Award which recognises alumni of the university and the NANS South-South Zone B, leadership summit.
Although handing over in no distant time, his political drive and medical passion have earned him an appointment in September, 2025 as the Director-General of Public Health, Welfare, and Medical Outreach for the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). Dr. Amb. Barr. Sen. Comr. Onovughegor Augustine Hittler is living a fulfilling path, and this is certainly not the end but the beginning of more to come.
