Class 77 College Of Commerce, Agbarha – Otor Monarch, Donate Books To Southern Delta University

Old students of Class 77 College Of Commerce, Warri in conjunction with HRM Dr Richard Oghenevwogaga Ebelle,the Ovie of Agbarha – Otor Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday, 24th November, 2025, donated books worth several millions of naira to Southern Delta University, Ozoro, Oreorokpe Campus.

Chief David Ejukonemu who spoke on behalf of the donors in his keynote address, stated among other things, explained that the gesture was made in order to add value to education and to compliment Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s efforts in the advancement of education in Delta State.

He noted that the books, christined the ‘Books For Africa ‘as he disclosed that they were brought from America.

While promising that the university will get more gestures from the donors, Chief Ejukonemu charged the university to make good use of the books.

The Provost of the institution, Professor Akpovughaye Taiga, on behalf of Southern Delta University Ozoro, Oreorokpe Campus, expressed his profound gratitude to the donors for the gesture.

He noted that books are more than printed pages and that they are vessels of knowledge, inspiration and discovery.

Professor Akpovughaye also noted that books shape minds, strengthen scholarship and open doors to new Worlds.

“Your donation, therefore is not just merely an act of giving – it an investment in the intellectual growth and future of our students, faculty and researchers.” he added.

The Provost of the institution in his speech , also stated that “As we incorporate these books into our shelves, we assure you that they will be well utilized and well cherished.”

He had noted that some of the donors are alumni of University of Ibadan.

The Duke of Oreorokpe, Prince Godwin Ejiyeren who represented HRM Major General Felix Mudjakperuo( rtd )Orodje of Okpe Kingdom who spoke at a brief reception for the donors at the office of the Provost, was also full of praises for the donors.

He also lauded and appreciated Governor Oborevwori for the establishment of the campus and laudable achievements in all sectors across Delta State.

The Deputy Dean of Students of the university campus, Dr James Ighorodje in a brief chat with our correspondent noted that the gesture was what was needed most by the university community and that the group was the first that made such a gesture.

The Librarian of the university campus, Dr Chukwuma Emeri who also spoke to our correspondent remarked that the books were relevant to the university as she assured that the university will make good use of them

Other members of the group that made the visit were: the Proprietor of Riser Schools , Effurun Mr Matthew Olomu , Mr Richard Ederi.
