Open Letter To UPU National Executive And UPU Diaspora Leadership

Attention: National President, Secretary-General, and Diaspora Coordinators of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU)

We, the undersigned concerned members of the Abuja Chapter of the UPU Youth Wing (Ighele), write to urgently call your attention to a leadership crisis that has grown beyond tolerance and now threatens the unity, dignity, and public image of the Urhobo Youths in the Federal Capital Territory.

For months, our Youth Wing has been subjected to high-handedness, divisive conduct, and an unacceptable pattern of disrespect that contradicts the values and leadership ethics of the Urhobo Nation. What is unfolding in Abuja Ighele is not leadership—it is an avoidable disorder enabled by an imposed structure that lacks legitimacy, cultural alignment, and the support of the majority of members.

Meetings have repeatedly been disrupted through confrontational behavior, disregard for constituted norms, and open disrespect toward married men, elders, and committed members who sacrifice their time to uphold the integrity of the Urhobo Youth body. Such actions have eroded morale, weakened participation, and damaged our standing among other ethnic youth organizations in Abuja.

It is deeply troubling that the individual currently imposed on the Abuja Ighele does not possess the cultural grounding, linguistic identity, or community acceptance required to represent Urhobo youths in a highly sensitive and multicultural environment. This leadership vacuum has made us vulnerable to embarrassment, ridicule, and internal division, which no responsible union should allow to continue.

We hereby demand immediate intervention from UPU National and Diaspora bodies to:

1. Investigate without delay the growing leadership abnormality and its impact on the unity of the Abuja Youth Wing.

2. Reverse the imposed leadership arrangement, which has clearly failed to meet the basic standards of conduct, acceptance, and cultural representation.

3. Set up a neutral, credible oversight team to stabilize the situation and restore order.

4. Organize a fresh, transparent, and democratic election that reflects the will of the Abuja Youths and aligns with UPU cultural and constitutional expectations.

Let it be made clear: we will not sit idle while the integrity of the Urhobo Youth Wing in Abuja is compromised. We are resolute, united, and determined to restore dignity, discipline, and proper leadership to the Ighele. Our demand is not rebellion—it is responsibility. Our tone is not hostility—it is urgency. Our message is not division—it is a call for correction.

We trust that UPU National and Diaspora authorities will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves, and we expect prompt action before the situation escalates beyond peaceful resolution.
