Residents Beg Govt To Fix Bad Spots In Abraka Roads Amid Renewed Rainfall

Residents of Abraka community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State have have appealed to Governments at all levels to consolidate efforts aimed at addressed the deplorable conditions of link roads in the town.

While acknowledging recent remedial efforts taken by the government to fix the Eku-Abraka expressway, the residents expressed worries over the worsening condition of link roads in the university following the return of the rains.

The residents made the appeal in interviews with our reporter in Abraka.

Accordibg to them, the heavy rains often render major access roads often become impassable whenever I rained, disrupting commuting activities in town.

They identified the areas most affected to include Bembo Road and the NUT axis of Abraka, where flooded sections and deep potholes dominate the roads whenever it rains.

They observed that vehicles frequently get stuck along these routes, forcing many of them to trek long distances through muddy and waterlogged roads in order to attend lectures.

Some respondents added that commercial transport operators often avoid the affected areas during rainfall, leading to transport delays and increased fares.

One of the residents Samuel Ogenefejiro, residing along Bembo Road described the situation as frustrating, noting that a journey that normally takes minutes could stretch into hours whenever it rains.

Another residents Jonathan Olawale living in the NUT area said the poor state of the road exposes students to safety risks, particularly during early morning or late evening movements.

They appealed to the Delta State Government and relevant authorities to urgently rehabilitate the affected roads to ease transportation challenges and improve safety in the university town.

The residents expressed hope that timely government intervention would bring lasting relief, especially as the rainy season continues.
