Eid el-Fitr Celebration: DELSU Announces Public Holidays, As VC Greets Muslim Staff

Following the declaration of Thursday, 19th March, and Friday, 20th March, 2026 as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid el-Fitr by Muslims in the Country, the Vice-Chancellor, Delta State University, Professor Samuel O. Asagba, has approved the said days as public holidays for all staff.
This was contained in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement added: “However, staff on essential duties are not affected by the holidays,” saying “work for all staff resumes on Monday, 23rd March, 2026.”
He continued: “On behalf of the Governing Council, Senate Management, Staff and Students, the Vice-Chancellor extends warm congratulations to all Muslim members of the university community on the successful observance of their religious duties and wishes them a joyous Eid el-Fitr celebration.”
Meanwhile, the institution, said that following the declaration of public holidays, the examinations earlier scheduled for Thursday, 19th and Friday, 20th March, 2026, have been postponed.
“Accordingly, all affected examinations are to be rescheduled and conducted two (2) days after the last examination of the respective Departments/Programmes,” the statement said.
“Deans of Faculties and Heads of Departments are hereby directed to ensure strict compliance with this directive. Revised examination schedules should be promptly communicated to students and submitted to the Directorate of Examinations and Special Duties for proper coordination,” the statement concluded.
