Afenifere Urges Peaceful Electioneering Ahead Of 2027 General Elections
Afenifere has called on political actors, stakeholders, and the electorate to embrace peaceful conduct as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation stressed the need for issue-based campaigns, mutual respect among candidates, and strict adherence to democratic principles to safeguard the nation’s unity and stability.
The group warned against the rising tide of political tension, inflammatory rhetoric, and acts capable of inciting violence, noting that such tendencies could undermine the credibility of the electoral process if not properly checked.
Afenifere urged political parties to educate their members and supporters on the importance of tolerance, discipline, and lawful engagement throughout the electioneering period. It also called on security agencies and the electoral body to remain neutral and proactive in ensuring a level playing field for all contestants.

Afenifere further appealed to Nigerians, particularly the youth, to resist being used as instruments of violence, advising them instead to contribute positively to the democratic process.
The group concluded by expressing optimism that with collective responsibility and adherence to the rule of law, the 2027 general elections would be conducted in a peaceful, free, and fair manner.
