BREAKING: Adelabu Resigns As Minister Of Power

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has resigned from his position in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.

In his resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, Adelabu said his exit would take effect from April 30 to allow for a smooth and orderly handover of responsibilities. He stated that the decision was necessary to enable him fully pursue his gubernatorial ambition in line with the provisions of the amended Electoral Act 2026, which bars political office holders from contesting elections while still in office.

Adelabu described his appointment as Minister of Power as a privilege and thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him, noting that it was an honour to contribute to reforms in the power sector and national development.

He also reportedly proposed the creation of a Coordinating Minister for Energy to drive integrated reforms across Nigeria’s electricity and gas sectors.
