Warri Lawyer Supports Calls For Review Of Delta Speaker’s Role As Forum Chairman

A Warri-based legal practitioner and human rights activist, Robinson Ariyo, has expressed support for calls seeking a review of the position of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.

Ariyo said leadership at the national level should promote unity, fairness, and responsible representation, noting that stakeholders have raised concerns about the Speaker’s continued leadership of the forum.

He also encouraged leaders and members of the Itsekiri ethnic group to channel their concerns through formal institutions by submitting petitions to the Public Complaints Commission over issues affecting inter-ethnic relations in Delta State.

According to him, statements and actions that may create tension among ethnic groups should be carefully reviewed by the appropriate authorities to ensure peace and fairness.

The lawyer further called for proper scrutiny of decisions relating to coastal boundary matters and urged transparency in addressing concerns linked to resource distribution and representation.

In addition, he appealed for greater accountability in the management of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), stressing the need for fairness, inclusiveness, and public trust in the agency’s operations.

Ariyo emphasized that lawful and institutional channels remain the best way to address grievances, urging affected groups to rely on dialogue, petitions, and peaceful engagement rather than protests or inflammatory remarks.

As of press time, there has been no official response from the Delta State House of Assembly leadership or other parties mentioned regarding the concerns raised.
