107 Bag First Class As DELSU Holds 18th Convocation

The Vice-Chancellor of the Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Samuel Asagba, has announced that 107 graduates have so far bagged First Class Honours as the institution’s 18th Convocation Ceremony holds at its Abraka campus.

Speaking during the ceremony, Professor Asagba described the convocation as a major academic milestone that provides not only a platform for awarding degrees but also an opportunity for institutional reflection, performance evaluation, and policy strengthening.

He expressed appreciation to the Visitor to the University and Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, for his continued support to the university through the MORE Agenda, particularly in ensuring steady payment of staff salaries and intervention in key areas of development.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the institution is graduating a total of 6,172 students across first-degree, diploma, and affiliation programmes.

According to him, the 107 First Class graduates reflect improved academic performance and the university’s growing commitment to excellence, while other students also graduated with Second Class Upper, Second Class Lower, Third Class, and Pass degrees.

Professor Asagba further revealed that the university has also awarded 871 postgraduate degrees, including PhDs, Master’s degrees, MPhil, and Postgraduate Diplomas, as part of the ongoing convocation exercise.

He noted that the institution continues to strengthen its academic standing and visibility, following its recognition in recent global rankings, which he attributed to collective effort, discipline, and institutional stability.

The Vice-Chancellor charged graduands to remain focused, disciplined, and worthy ambassadors of the university as they progress in life, stressing that their training must translate into meaningful impact in society.

The convocation ceremony is still ongoing and is expected to feature the presentation of additional awards, honours, and the formal recognition of graduating students across various faculties.
