Joint Nigeria–U.S. Operation Eliminates ISIS Leader In Lake Chad Basin

A coordinated counterterrorism operation by Nigerian and United States forces has resulted in the killing of a senior Islamic State leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, in the Lake Chad Basin.

According to a statement by President Tinubu on Saturday, the overnight mission was carried out by the Nigerian Armed Forces in close collaboration with the U.S. Armed Forces, adding that the operation targeted the militant leader’s compound, where he and several of his lieutenants were reportedly eliminated.

Early assessments described the strike as a significant success in ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks operating within the region.

The joint mission highlights deepening military cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in tackling insurgency and violent extremism.

President Tinubu praised the operation, commending the professionalism and bravery of the personnel involved.

He also expressed appreciation to Donald Trump for what he described as strong leadership and continued support in advancing shared security goals.
