Oborevwori Commends Police Over Arrest Of Two Suspected Electric Cable Vandals in Delta

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has commended the Delta State Police Command for the arrest of two suspected electric cable vandals and the recovery of vandalised electric cables, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the protection of critical public infrastructure across the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor praised the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, officers and men of the command for their prompt response and sustained efforts in tackling criminal activities, particularly the vandalism of government-owned facilities.

Oborevwori also applauded members of the local vigilante group for their collaboration with the police, noting that the successful operation underscored the importance of community participation in safeguarding public assets.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Kwale Police Station, in a joint operation with members of the vigilante group, acted on credible intelligence on June 25, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road.

The police said the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the security team, but were apprehended during the operation. One of the suspects sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while the other remains in police custody.

The suspects were identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34. Police also recovered the vandalised electric cables as exhibits.

Governor Oborevwori said the arrest demonstrated his administration’s resolve to protect public infrastructure and ensure that government investments continue to serve the people without disruption.

He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would assist in preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the security of lives and property, the Governor stressed that protecting critical infrastructure remains essential to the state’s development.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, warned criminal elements to desist from vandalising government critical infrastructure and other public assets, assuring that the command would continue to identify, arrest and prosecute offenders.

He also appealed to members of the public to sustain their cooperation with the police by volunteering useful information capable of preventing crime and enhancing public safety across the state.
