UNIBEN Staff Arraigned Over Alleged N3.2M Salary Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a staff member of the University of Benin, Segun Bode Adedeji, before the Edo State High Court over an alleged N3.29 million fraud.

Adedeji was arraigned by the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before Justice E. G. Adekanmbi on a four-count charge bordering on fraudulent practices involving N3,285,396.

According to the anti-graft agency, investigations revealed that while employed by the University of Benin, Adedeji was simultaneously receiving salaries from the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin City.

The commission said the discovery followed intelligence gathering by its operatives, which allegedly uncovered the dual salary payments received by the defendant from both public institutions during the same period.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission accused Adedeji of engaging in fraudulent practices by drawing salaries from two government establishments concurrently, resulting in the alleged loss of over N3.2 million.

The matter has been adjourned for further proceedings as the prosecution seeks to prove its case against the defendant.

Adedeji is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
