DESOPADEC To Launch 2026 Bursary Portal As Izoukumor Assures Students Of Payment Process

The Executive Director Social Services, EDSS, on the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Favour Izoukumor has assured the Executive Members of the Confederation of Delta State Oil Producing Ethnic Nationalities Students’ Union of the Commission’s readiness to commence with the process of the implementation of the year 2026, annual bursary payment to the indigent students across its mandates areas.

He made this known Tuesday July 21, 2026 while receiving them on a courtesy visit in his office at the DESOPADEC Headquarters in Warri.

Chief Izoukumor informed them that the Board approved the implementation during their last meeting and assured them that the launching of the portal may commence in September to enable qualified students apply online.

“The good news is that we have made proposals and the Governor has given us the green light and the Board has also approved the commencement. Hopefully by the month of August or September, the online application portal shall be launched to enable qualified students to apply for the Bursary,” he said.

Speaking further, he said some of the issues that ignited the complaints during the last exercise have been addressed, noting that eligibility is based on a student being an undergraduate of a Degree programme in a higher institution.

“We also observed that there was a network glitch during payment. All that has been dealt with appropriately,” he added.

Stating that all the qualified students who participated were paid their bursary last year, he said that the Commission will take appropriate measures to avoid any delays or hindrance in payment during the process, adding that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is very much interested in the welfare of the students in their various institutions.

Led by Comrade Aweh. N. Johnson, the Union commended the effort of the Executive Director Social Services, Chief Favour Izoukumor for always projecting their issues to the Board of DESOPADEC and the Governor of Delta State and appealed that the number of beneficiaries amongst the ethnic nationalities be increased, saying that some students who were not captured for payment were agitating for inclusion.

He thanked the Executive Director Social Services, Board of DESOPADEC and the Governor for always coming to the aid of the indigent students in the Oil Producing communities, saying that the students are appreciative of the magnanimity and good gestures of the Commission.

In a vote of thanks, Comrade Okoro Benedicta Ogechukwu applauded the resilience of the EDSS in handling the affairs of the indigent students since assumption of office and prayed for God’s guidance upon him and the other Board Members and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the students friendly posture of his administration in taking students’ welfare to the front burner.

Other members who were in attendance include Comrade Idebe Iruoghene Precious; Comrade Ochonogor Justice; Comrade Jemide Eyitemi and others.
