Egbo Marks Two Years As Ughelli North Chairman, Highlights Infrastructure, Security, Education Achievements

The Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun (Barr.) Jaro Movudu Egbo, KSC, has marked his second year in office with a review of his administration’s achievements, highlighting major strides in infrastructure, healthcare, security, education, staff welfare and environmental sanitation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Press Unit of the Office of the Executive Chairman, the council said the administration has recorded “visible and measurable” progress in grassroots development in line with the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

Among the flagship projects highlighted is the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern Ughelli North Local Government Secretariat Complex, designed to enhance administrative efficiency and provide a conducive working environment for civil servants. Construction of a modern gatehouse for the secretariat is also nearing completion.

The administration also announced the rehabilitation of the Legislative Assembly Complex, including the provision of executive furniture, modern cooling systems and a dedicated electricity supply.

In the health sector, work is progressing on the Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital and Maternal Health Centre, a modern healthcare facility that will include doctors’ and nurses’ quarters to improve access to quality healthcare services.

To boost commerce and access to justice, the council said it has developed organised multi-storey market stalls for traders and constructed the Ughelli Court dual-court complex to strengthen judicial services within the local government.

The administration further disclosed that rehabilitation work is ongoing on the long-neglected Post Office Road, with concrete and asphalt overlay as well as improved drainage aimed at easing movement around the Ughelli High Court.

In the power sector, the council said it procured and installed three 11/33 KVA transformers in strategic communities to improve electricity supply. It also restored power to the council secretariat through extensive electrical rewiring and deployed solar energy systems, including daytime solar panels and solar-powered streetlights.

On security, the administration credited its collaboration with security agencies for helping to restore peace along previously troubled sections of the East-West Highway. According to the statement, security operations around the Ogor, Evwreni and Ohoror axis have significantly reduced incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery along the Evwreni-Uwheru and Uvwiamuge-Agbarho corridors.

The council also donated a fully equipped patrol vehicle to the Police Mobile Force and constructed a new police post to strengthen security operations.

In the education sector, over 300 school desks, uniforms, textbooks and writing materials were distributed to pupils in public primary schools. The administration also partnered with the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to support teacher retraining and classroom rehabilitation.

To improve environmental sanitation, the council carried out extensive desilting and clearing of drainage channels along the East-West Road in Agbarho to reduce flooding, while also reviving the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The administration equally highlighted improvements in staff welfare, including the settlement of outstanding financial claims and regular welfare incentives for members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

Several key offices within the council secretariat have also been renovated and furnished, while the council expanded its operational fleet with official vehicles for principal officers, a Toyota Hilux for the Chief Security Officer and an 18-seater bus for the council’s Press Unit.

As his administration begins the second half of its tenure, Egbo reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating on the achievements already recorded through sustained investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, youth empowerment and economic development.

He pledged to continue providing transparent, responsive and people-centred governance aimed at positioning Ughelli North as a model of grassroots development in Delta State.
