Rotary Club Of Ughelli Metropolis Donates Delivery Kits, Holds Maternal Health Outreach In Delta

The Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis, under the Rotary Club of Nigeria, has reaffirmed its commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare with the donation of delivery kits to expectant mothers during a Maternal and Child Health Outreach held at the Afiesere Primary Health Centre in Afiesere Town, Delta State.

The outreach, which took place on Thursday, July 30, formed part of activities marking Maternal and Child Health Month and focused on promoting safe motherhood through health education and practical support for pregnant women.

A health educator, Mrs. Esther Emashaye, delivered a lecture titled, “Maternal and Child Health: The Importance of Antenatal Care and Birth Preparedness for Safe Motherhood.” She highlighted the importance of regular antenatal care, proper birth preparedness, balanced nutrition, personal hygiene, adherence to medical advice, and compliance with antenatal teachings as essential steps toward safe pregnancies and healthy childbirth.

According to her, expectant mothers who consistently attend antenatal clinics and follow professional medical guidance are more likely to experience safer deliveries and healthier outcomes for themselves and their babies.

Speaking during the programme, President of the Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis, Rotarian Akpobome Rufus Ibebe, said the outreach reflected Rotary’s dedication to reducing preventable maternal and infant deaths through quality healthcare interventions.

He stressed that every mother deserves access to quality healthcare, while every child deserves a healthy start in life. He urged expectant mothers to attend antenatal clinics regularly, comply with medical advice, and seek professional healthcare throughout pregnancy and childbirth.

As part of the humanitarian intervention, the club presented delivery kits to selected expectant mothers to support safe deliveries and ease the financial burden associated with childbirth.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis for the timely intervention, describing the gesture as a demonstration of genuine care, compassion, and commitment to the health and well-being of mothers and their babies.
