Car Accident: Evangelist Gospel Agorchukwu Alive, Bishop Irabor Debunks Death Rumour
PORT HARCOURT — Bishop Irabor Wisdom has dismissed widespread rumours alleging that popular cleric, Evangelist Gospel Agorchukwu, died in a road accident, describing the claims as false and urging Christians to stop spreading unverified information about fellow ministers.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Bishop Irabor recounted receiving a phone call from a fellow pastor who claimed Evangelist Agorchukwu had died instantly in an accident.
According to him, he immediately dismissed the report because he had just spoken with the evangelist before receiving the call.
“I just finished talking with him before you called,” the bishop said, adding that he was shocked by how quickly false reports had spread.
To verify the situation and encourage the ministry, Bishop Irabor said he travelled to Port Harcourt to preach in Evangelist Agorchukwu’s church while the latter was receiving treatment in hospital.
He disclosed that even while the evangelist was recovering, fresh rumours emerged claiming both of his legs had been amputated and that he had become permanently confined to a wheelchair.
However, the bishop said those claims were equally false.
He expressed gratitude to God after Evangelist Agorchukwu attended church in person, walking on both legs, describing the development as a testimony of God’s faithfulness.
Bishop Irabor also revealed three key pieces of counsel he gave the evangelist during his recovery. He said the first was for the evangelist to record weekly video messages to reassure and pray for church members, a move he said restored the congregation’s confidence and dispelled rumours of his death.
Secondly, he advised him to invite respected fathers and senior ministers to minister in his absence so the church would remain spiritually strengthened and united.
Reflecting on the experience, Bishop Irabor said challenges are part of genuine Christian ministry.
“Any church that has not gone through shaking is not the church of the living God. Shaking is what validates your calling,” he said.
He noted that the third counsel was private and not intended for public disclosure.
The bishop concluded by praying for God’s protection over pastors, their families, and congregations, while urging believers to verify information before sharing it, especially when it concerns the lives of God’s servants.
