23-Year-Old DELSU Student Emerges King In Ekwuoma Kingdom

A 23-year-old undergraduate of Microbiology at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Prince Daniel Afamefune Chukwujindu, has emerged as the 11th Ajeh of Ekwuoma Kingdom in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Prince Daniel succeeds his late father, King Chinedu Samuel Chukwujindu, Ezeagu-Ukpo I, who died on June 2, 2026.

The young monarch was formally enthroned following the completion of his late father’s burial rites, taking the royal title of Ezeagu-Ukpo II.

His emergence followed the age-long tradition of primogeniture in Ekwuoma, under which the first son of a reigning monarch succeeds his father. Reports on the enthronement said the succession tradition has been maintained in the kingdom for centuries.

The enthronement ceremony attracted traditional rulers, chiefs, community leaders, government representatives, academics, members of the royal family, friends and well-wishers.

Speaking after his installation, the new Ajeh expressed appreciation to the people of Ekwuoma for their confidence and support, pledging to uphold the customs and traditions of the kingdom.

He also promised to promote peace, unity and development in the community.

Prince Daniel called on all sons and daughters of Ekwuoma to unite behind the traditional institution and contribute collectively to the development of the kingdom.

He further stressed the need for cooperation among the traditional institution, government and the people in addressing challenges confronting Ekwuoma and advancing its development.

The Chairman of the Ekwuoma Council of Chiefs and Orikeze of the kingdom, Chief Ernest Njokede, congratulated the new monarch and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the kingdom.

Njokede prayed for wisdom, strength, good health and divine guidance for the young king as he begins his reign.

He also urged the people of Ekwuoma to support the new Ajeh and place the interests of the kingdom above personal differences.

Paying tribute to the late monarch, Njokede described King Chinedu Samuel Chukwujindu’s 18-year reign as a period of service, peace and commitment to the welfare of his people.

He urged the community to preserve the legacy of the late king while giving the new monarch the necessary support to succeed.

With his emergence, Prince Daniel becomes one of the youngest traditional rulers in the community’s history, while continuing his university education alongside his responsibilities on the throne.
