Ndokwa Diocese Anglican Communion Holds 10th Annual Diocesan Women

The 10th Annual Diocesan Women’s Conference of the Ndokwa Diocese of the
Anglican Communion has ended, with a call on Christians to strive daily to
live like Christ by exhibiting God[s nature of mercy and compassion towards
one another and the larger society.
In her presidential address, the President of the Mothers’ Union, Women
Guild and Girls’ Guild, Mrs. Joy Ifunanya Obiosa encapsulated the crux of
the conference’s theme: ‘God is Gracious and Compassionate-Jonah 4:2’ and
admonished the congregation to always obey God’s word and instructions,
adding that obedience is better than sacrifice.
She also advised the gathering not to take God’s grace for granted,
stressing that though God is gracious and compassionate, He is also a
consuming fire who abhors sin.
Mrs. Obiosa warned against the practice of selfishness, meanness and
isolation, adding these things are not in tandem with God’s nature, and
therefore should not be found among God’s children.
She therefore, enjoined Christians to be willing at all times to
accommodate one another and even strangers as well to promote peace in
their sphere of contacts. “Be an ambassador of peace in your families,
homes, churches, communities and the nation at large,” she added.
She also called on those in authority to display Gods nature of love, mercy
and kindness through their privileged positions and shun any form of
injustice, irresponsibility, mediocrity and the likes.
She urged traditional rulers and community leaders to show mercy and employ
the services of relevant security outfits to stop the menace of
Hausa/Fulani herdsmen in farmlands.
Meanwhile, Christian women have been advised to live within their means and
avoid debts at all cost; shun drunkenness, corruption and the use of
profane words in line with Women Guild Rule No. 3 of the Diocesan Women
Guild of the Anglican Communion.
The Mothers’ Union president further called for diversification within the
home by families resorting to multiple sources of income in order to keep
the home afloat in the present harsh and hard economic recession plaguing
the country, while also encouraging youths and young graduates to take up
vocational and/or entrepreneurial training in addition to whatever trade
they are into to reduce unemployment and make ends meet as well.
Mrs. Obiosa also noted that the life of any woman is in phases and each
phase should be understood, embraced and where necessary managed.
She therefore encouraged mothers not to fret about menopause which she
described as a natural stage that can be properly managed through
consultation and expert counseling.
She however advised against self-medication when signs of menopause start
manifesting, which according to her could be a seizure of the normal
monthly flow for over twelve months and others.
Parts of the activities during the conference include: timely
messages/sermons, Bible Studies, Bible Quiz by all the archdeaconry,
praises, and health talk on menopause by Dr. (Mrs) Ngozi Nwabuoku.
