Conduct Free, Fair, Credible LG Polls, CDHR Urges DSIEC
The Chairman of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights, CDHR, Delta State branch, Comr. Prince Kehinde Taiga, has congratulated the newly sworn-in Chairman and members of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC).
Comr Taiga, also why responding to questions from journalists in Warri, urged the members of the commission to put in their best in ensuring a free, fair and credible election in the forth coming local government polls in the state.
Comr Taiga also said that the board should carry out their mandate without fear and favoritism to any party or persons with utmost integrity so as to make Delta state an example to other states in the area of credible, free and fair election.
Furthermore, he called on youths in the state to shun violence, election rigging, snatching of electoral materials, adding that they should not be used by desperate politicians in carrying out any action that is capable of threatening the peace presently enjoyed in the area.
The CDHR boss challenged the Nigerian police to start making plans and put up a commitment to ensure that all forms of electoral malpractices are prevented in the state.
The Chairman also called on Deltans to get their Permanent Voters Card, stressing that Deltans must shun, ignore and put an end to collection of money from candidates in exchange for their votes.
This, he said will only make them sell their destiny and imprison their conscience throughout the tenure of such candidates if they eventually win and fail to carry out their campaign promises.
He continued: “Look at the antecedents of the candidates in the area of leadership, intellectual capability and management skills before deciding who to cast your votes for during elections. Through this, we can together achieve the Delta State of our dreams.”
