Akima Cannot Destroy My Name And Go Scot-free— Evance

Member representing Ethiope East Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Evance Ivwurie, has said that Comr. Kelly Efemena Umukoro AKA Akima Onos’ attempt to destroy his reputation will be dealt with, adding that Akima cannot destroy his name and go scot-free.
Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a phone conversation, the lawmaker stressed that no politician would allow himself to be defamed, adding that Akima’s arrest yesterday was because he jumped bail.
Evance recounted how Akima approached him a long time ago about the alleged threat to his life by a former Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Abraka Division, CSP Ogbonna Okoronkwo, noting how he stepped into the matter then.
He wondered why he suddenly became a target for Akima’s social media attacks, adding that Akima was sponsored by APC to carry these blackmailing publications.
“My anger with Akima is that he accused me of killing two of my brothers and an indigene of Otorho in Abraka, despite many other things that he said.
“He (Akima) said that I am a ritualist. No reasonable person will take these things for granted.
“I vowed that my blackmailers will meet face to face with me in court and that is what is already happening.
According to Evance, his intention was to lodge his case with the court either at Isiokolo or Asaba, but was told that the cases there were much, and had to lodge his complaint at the Federal High Court, Agbor.
“I have charged Akima for defamation and I am claiming 200 Million Naira from him because his publications on the social media against me were seen by many all over the world,” he said.
He continued: “While I was in court, Akima kept on writing things about me. I had to put up a petition in line with the Cyber Act Crime to the Inspector General of Police who eventually directed the CP to investigate the matter.
“Akima was arrested many months ago and in his confessional statements, he confirmed that he had been publishing materials on the social media against me.
“I was called by the Police for an interview. Akima was also invited and he said that he stood by all he wrote about me. Also, he said that if given time, he will bring his evidence to prove all the allegations he leveled against me. Akima left and never returned with any evidence.
“Thereafter, the police did their investigation and came up with an 11 count charge. He was charged to the Federal High Court in Asaba in October, 2017. The police invited him two days before the hearing so he could be served and he failed to come. They went to his home in Obiaruku 18 times, but did not see him. This means that Akima jumped bail.”
Furthermore, Evance disclosed that “the case was moved to November and then December in 2017, till finally to February, 2018. The police has been calling his phone lines to invite him to Asaba, but he failed to pick or show up.”
He said: “I have not broken any law in pursuing my desire to bring Akima to book.
The law is slow, but effective. The Cyber Crime Act is punishable by a minimum of 7 years or a fine of 10 Million Naira. He has damaged my reputation and he must pay for it.”
When asked by this reporter if there was room for forgiveness for Akima if he ever retracted his publications, the lawmaker said that he is a Christian, but asked if the seeds Akima had sown in the hearts of the wives and kids of his late brothers who he accused him (Evance) of killing could be removed?
While saying that “the law must take its course”, Evance revealed that he is financially responsible for the upkeep of the said wives and children of his late brothers till date.
At the time of filing this report, Akima is under the custody of the State CID, Asaba. He was whisked away yesterday by policemen from Asaba when he attempted to enter his car after his court case in Obiaruku.
We contacted one of his friends who is presently in Asaba. We were told that they are yet to secure his bail and were being tossed to and fro. They opined that the arrest of Akima was rather one of oppression.
A report by Secret Reporters, an online news medium, alleged that the new Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Mr. Haruna Huzi Mshelia was being used as a tool by politicians in the state, adding that one of his assignments is to clamp down on activists.
A text message from a fan of Akima however showed that Akima had been remanded for two weeks at the Delta State Police Headquarters in Asaba.
