Police, AMCON Invade Marine Yard In Delta Community

The police and the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and others in Delta State have allegedly invaded a marine yard owned by Peterson Commercial Agency Limited in Opete Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was learnt that some staff of the company were allegedly arrested and beaten to stupor.

Marine equipment worth several millions of naira were allegedly damaged and looted.

The police led by the Area Commander in Burutu Area, ACP Marvelous, led other security agents to carry out the alleged invasion in the company.

The invasion which occurred on Saturday December 15, 2018 caused serious tension in the area.

Indigenes and residents are worried over the alleged police invasion even when a case between the company and AMCON is still pending at the Delta State High Court in Otor-Udu in Udu Local Government Area of the state.

In a swift reaction, the police Area Commander, ACP Marvellous, absolved the police of any wrong doing.

The Area Commander explained that the action carried out was not an invasion but a directive from the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Khoutoun Idris through the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Anthony Michael Ogbizi for him to provide security to AMCON officials so as to gain access to the company’s yard and its properties.

Responding, the AMCON Spokesperson, Jerry Ogbonna said the corporation’s action was not targeted at Peterson Commercial Agency Limited, but to recover the assets being kept in the premises of Wilbros Nigeria Limited, a company that is indebted to AMCON.

It is also learnt that AMCON is serious about recovering the property from Wilbros, but not ready to take responsibility of both assets and liabilities accrued from the properties.
