Delta Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest 10 Suspects, Recover Firearm, Drugs

ASABA, Delta State — The Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes across Agbor, Abbi and Oghara, rescuing a kidnapped 60-year-old man, arresting 10 suspects and recovering a locally made firearm and quantities of suspected illicit drugs.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, on Sunday.

According to the statement, operatives of the Agbor Division, acting on intelligence following a report of the kidnapping of the 60-year-old man, mobilised to Alisime Village on September 4, 2026, alongside forest guards and local security personnel.

The operatives engaged the suspected kidnappers and successfully rescued the victim unharmed.

The suspects reportedly fled into the bush with suspected gunshot injuries. One mobile phone and an ATM card were recovered, while the area was cordoned off as a manhunt for the fleeing suspects continued.

In a separate operation later that night, operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit (CACU), Ozoro, raided a brothel in Abbi following credible intelligence concerning a suspect wanted in connection with an arson case at Owhelogbo Community in August.

The suspect was reportedly hiding at the location.

During the operation, 10 suspects, comprising seven females and three males, were arrested. Police said quantities of Tramadol, Swinol, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were also recovered.

The command said profiling of the suspects was ongoing and that those found culpable would be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Oghara Division, working with a civilian anti-cult group, recovered a locally made cut-to-size firearm following a scuffle involving about eight persons along Ibori Road, Oghara.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on September 4. On sighting the patrol team, the suspects reportedly fled, during which one of them, identified by the alias “Highest,” allegedly discarded the firearm.

The weapon was recovered, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, commended the police operatives and other security personnel involved in the operations.

He directed that efforts be intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and assured residents that the command would continue to strengthen intelligence-led operations, raid identified criminal hideouts and sustain patrols across the state.

The Commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide the police with credible information that could assist in preventing and detecting crime.
