Shun Violence, Contribute Towards Success Of 2019 Polls, NUUS Leader Tells Youths, Nigerian Students

The Speaker (Otota), National Union of Urhobo Students (NUUS), Worldwide, Comr. Prince Awhotu Amrevwuwho, has called on youths and Nigerian students to shun acts of violence and pursue peace and contribute their own quota towards the success of the 2019 elections.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) during an exclusive chat in Abraka yesterday,

Amrevwuwho added: “No democracy can grow under an atmosphere of rancor and disunity.”

Furthermore, he frowned at the rate killings were perpetrated by political actors in Urhobo land, adding that same was seen across other parts of the country.

Continuing, he advised students and youths to refuse to be tools in the hands of politicians who are determined to get power at all cost.

The Speaker said: “Unemployment is at the root of the negative criminal trends at play in the country. Governments at all levels in the country must be committed to creating jobs and giving empowerment to the teeming youths.

“Politicians must also be committed to equipping the youths with necessary entrepreneurial skills for them to be prepared for the future, rather than arming them with guns and weapons of mass destruction to support their political ambitions.”

He tasked Niger Delta youths to avoid destroying already built infrastructure in the region as a way of showing their grievances, but seek to through their representatives attract more developmental projects to their localities.

He noted: “Youths must learn to mount pressure on their leaders through legal means and seek to recall any that has performed below expectation.”

Continuing, he called on the Delta State government to put more effort in developing the state, while commending the governor for his contributions in the area of road construction.

According to him, the government of the day must pay attention to creating jobs for the unemployed and security of lives and property, adding that oil companies that once operated in the state must be lured back.

Amrevwuwho tasked deltans to go to the polls on Saturday, 23rd, February, 2019 and vote for candidates of their choice in a peaceful and orderly manner, as he called on international observers to stick to their roles and not try to interfere in the process.
