Delta Guber: Niger Delta Youths, Women And Security Movement For Ogboru Rejects INEC Result, Holds Protest

Leaders and members of the Niger Delta Youths, Women and Security Movement for Ogboru, Delta State Chapter, a political pressure group, have staged a peaceful protest in Abraka, over what they described as massive fraud during the governorship election in the state that saw the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaring Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as winner.

Speaking during the protest that held yesterday in Abraka, the Media Assistant to Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the state, opined that the group decided to stage a protest over the guber election result declared by INEC in the state, adding that that the group has rejected the result and insists that Deltans voted for Ogboru as their governor during the last election.

She said: “It was a peaceful protest staged to express their displeasure over the results declared by INEC during the guber poll.”

She called on the presidency to look into the matter because it was the worst election conducted in Delta, where security personnel where interfering in election processes and majority of voters were suppressed and driven away from their polling units, saying that the government should clearly look into the matter.

One of the protesters, Odesi Odeh, who spoke to our reporter, said the reason for the protest was because they discovered that the mandate of Ogboru was stolen and that before the mandate can be gotten back they need to fight for it and that is the reason for the peaceful protest.

According to him, the group in other local government areas has also held theirs too.

Odeh called on President Muhammadu Buhari to remember that Deltans are entitled to their rights and that for a long time now it has been only one party ruling for twenty years with little or no transformation so far in the state.

Odeh added: “Reformation is needed both in government and in the state,” stressing that this influenced the reason why they chose a man in the person of Great Ogboru that can bring such change.
