Delta Guber 2023: IYC’s Call For An Ijaw Governor Shows That They Have No Respect For Equity —Ofomana

The Special Adviser (SA) to the Delta State Governor on Special Duties, Evangelist Akpor Ofomana, has said that the call by the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), for Ijaw ethnic nationality to produce the Governor of Delta Sate in 2023, shows that the group does not have respect for equity.

Ofomana spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) recently during an exclusive chat in his residence in Abraka.

According to him, nothing will stop Delta Central from producing the governor in 2023, adding that he is already consulting to see that he emerges the governor of the state, come 2023.

He said: “My ambition to be governor in 2023 is a product of divine direction. I am a popular person. In Delta Central, North and South senatorial districts, many persons know me and would be able to say what my name is and they know what I stand for. I am the most popular person for this position in my senatorial district, Delta Central.

“Academically I am qualified. I have also been in the political system of this state from 1999 till now. I have never left Ibori’s dynasty. I have never left him to any other party. Okowa is still loyal to Ibori as governor and when I come in, I will do same to Okowa too.”

Furthermore, he opined that if he is given the chance to govern the state, “he will consolidate and augment what Okowa is doing already.”

His words: “Okowa is a ‘Prosperity’ governor and I am going to be a times two ‘Prosperity’ governor.”

He added: “I am a one tenure governor. Delta State is too large a place for governors to be serving two terms. I propose a 4-year-term for everyone who wants to be governor in the state so it can go round easily.”

While calling on Deltans to support his ambition, he stressed that it will be a blessing for Delta to have a cleric as governor for the first time.

On the re-election of his boss, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, he said this was possible because of his good works that are spread across the state.

He continued: “Even in Abraka where his major rival, Great Ovedje Ogboru is from, he has projects concluded here. There are no more bad roads in Abraka,” saying that even in terms of appointment, “Governor Okowa has flooded everywhere.”

“We have several persons from Abraka as SAs and others with appointments that even outnumber those from his own local government,” he noted.

Speaking about Okowa’s second term, he said that “the governor’s assignment would be to dot all the ‘i’s and cross all the ‘t’s, and then his name will be written in marble.”

He noted: “Okowa is a man that whatsoever he does, he does it very well. He is a grass-root politician and has his journey from a Local Government Chairman to Commissioner and then the Senate and went on to be Governor and then just got a renewed mandate to be Governor. He is a don politician.”
