Suicide: 21-Year-Old DELSU Dropout Dies After Drinking Poisonous Substance
By Daniel Dafe
A 21-year-old lady, Tejiri Direia, who hails from Uvwie Local Government Area and resident in the university town of Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government of Delta State, has committed suicide.
According to reports, three days ago, her neighbours were forced to break into her apartment after they perceived a foul order from her residence, only to discover that she was dead after taking a poisonous dangerous insecticide linked to several suicide cases, as a can of the said substance was found in her room.
The parents of the deceased were immediately contacted and were shocked to find out after police investigations that she was no longer a student of Delta State University, Abraka, and was to sit for the JAMB examination yesterday and had taken the course option of Biology Education.
A police source believes that the said lady may have been forced to end her life over frustration.
Neighbours said that in recent times before Tejiri’s death, they observed that she was very withdrawn.
According to the father of the deceased, they were not aware that she was to write the JAMB exam, adding that they have continually been paying the rent and fees of their daughter who they believed was still a 300 Level student of Delta University, Abraka in the Department of Nursing.
Her remains have since been deposited in a mortuary in Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government Area.
When contacted, the Assistant Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Chuks Orisewezie, said he learnt of the suicide case, but was yet to confirm from the Divisional Police Officer.
The Dean of Students of the university, Professor Augustus Atubi told our reporter that he was not aware of any such report.
