Professor Egwuyenga To Take Over As DELSU VC December 1
By John Tega
Delta State Governor, Sen. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, has approved the appointment of Professor Andy Egwuyenga as the new Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, dated November 1, 2019, the appointment will take effect from December 1, 2019, after Professor Victor Peretomode’s tenure ends on the 31st of November, 2019.
The said statement was sequel to the receipt of the report of the selection board for the appointment of Vice Chancellor for DELSU by the governor.
Egwuyenga who emerged best of the 15 professors that were shortlisted for the screening process, clinched the 1st spot ahead of Professors Grace Ogwu and Sam Asagba who came 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Prior to this announcement, some lecturers from Delta North had pushed that the new VC should emerge from their area since from the inception of the university, only Delta Central and South senatorial districts have produced the VCs.
In a recent interview with journalists, the Governing Council Chairman, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, had said that ethnicity was not a criterion for who becomes the next VC.
Egwuyenga is said to have held his last office in the institution under Professor Igun.
A total of 19 professors applied for this job.
